Day 1 – Cusco – Cloud Forest – Bambu Lodge

Morning
• Departure from Cusco (hotel or airport).
• Visit:
- Ninamarca pre-Inca tombs
- Paucartambo colonial town

Afternoon
• Enter Manu Biosphere Reserve via Acjanaco Pass.
• Leisure walk in the Cloud Forest:
- Cock-of-the-Rock lek
- Orchids, bromeliads
- Capuchin monkeys

Evening
• Arrive at Bambu / Cloud Forest Lodge.
• Optional night walk for frogs, insects, night monkeys.

Overnight: Cloud Forest Lodge

Day 2 – Cloud Forest – Atalaya – Manu River – Reserved Zone Boundary

Morning
• Drive to Atalaya Port.
• Begin motorized canoe journey along the Alto Madre de Dios River.
• Birdwatching along the river: herons, vultures, kingfishers.

Midday
• Pass by local native settlements, small farms, and riverside wildlife.
• Lunch on riverbank.

Afternoon
• Enter the Manu River, gateway to the Reserved Zone.
• Increased wildlife sightings:
- Capybaras
- Black caiman
- Orinoco geese
- Spider and howler monkeys

Evening
• Arrive at Maquisapayoj/Casa Matsiguenka-area lodge (outside but adjacent to Reserved Zone).
• Rest and light nocturnal walk.

Overnight: Lodge near Reserved Zone entrance

Day 3 – Reserved Zone – Cocha Salvador

Early Morning
• Enter the official Manu Reserved Zone checkpoint.
• Navigate deep upriver toward Limonal and Salvador Lake area.

Day Activities
• Catamaran exploration on Cocha Salvador:
- Giant river otters (one of the best chances in Peru)
- Agami herons
- Brown capuchins
- Hoatzins
• Easy forest walk with a naturalist guide:
- Huge ceiba trees
- Leafcutter ants
- Potential tapir tracks

Evening
• Dinner and optional night walk for:
- Tree frogs
- Owls
- Night monkeys

Overnight: Casa Matsiguenka or Reserved Zone Lodge

Day 4 – Cocha Otorongo & Pristine Primary Forest

Morning
• Visit the Otorongo Lake observation tower:
- Scenic canopy view
- Good chances for black caiman and shorebirds
• Insights into old-growth Amazon forest ecology.

Midday
• Lunch at lodge, rest in hammocks.

Afternoon
• Long but gentle walk through primary forest:
- Woolly monkeys
- Possibly peccaries
- Orchids, strangler figs
- Rare mammals (tayra, pygmy marmoset)

Evening
• Optional night excursion to look for tapir (seasonal).
• Cultural talk from Matsiguenka hosts (if staying in Casa Matsiguenka).

Overnight: Casa Matsiguenka / Reserved Zone Lodge

Day 5 – Manu River – Boca Manu – Rainforest Lodge

Morning
• Begin boat return along the Manu River.
• Excellent wildlife viewing:
- Jaguars (occasional but possible on riverbanks)
- Black caiman
- Capybaras
- Scarlet macaws

Afternoon
• Continue to Boca Manu and then travel toward the Alto Madre de Dios.
• Arrive at a comfortable lowland rainforest lodge.

Evening
• Relaxation or light night walk.

Overnight: Lowland Rainforest Lodge

Day 6 – Atalaya – Cusco

Morning
• Return by boat to Atalaya.
• Drive back toward Cusco.

Afternoon
• Scenic stops in the Cloud Forest for last wildlife sightings.
• Arrival in Cusco by late afternoon or early evening.
